Parents and children alike will delight at the ingenuity of “Jackie,” the four-legged friend, who is mistaken for a pillow, but nevertheless tries to please her unsuspecting owner. The owner, an unnamed mustached man, has lofty and unreasonable expectations for the pup (expecting a pillow and all).
It’s not often that a picture book brings to mind late-60s era rock and roll, but Mick Jagger’s infamous “You can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes you might find you get what you need…” came to mind as we pawed through this delightfully quirky book, and discover that Jackie is best as she is meant to be.
Gehl’s sparse dialog and Weyant’s clever illustrations will entertain young readers, and expect giggles when the furry impersonator assumes the identity of a coat!
